US Citizen toddler born to British parent, going to UK

Re: US Citizen toddler born to British parent, going to UK
We can't find our marriage certificate. I'm wondering if this is imperative?
My husband also can't find his British birth certificate....but he has his UK passport.
It also looks like we won't have this done by the time we leave the USA....
I'm worried about arriving with my son as a visitor and if they will question this.

So long as you have a return ticket and are able to answer a few simple questions about your stay (what for, how long, staying where) then neither of you will have a problem.

Thank you. Even though I have a student visa and my hubby is British?
We will have return tickets for December, so only 3 months.
If they ask why he isn't a dependent on my student visa, what should I say? Do I need to explain that he's actually British by descent and we'll be getting him a British passport or will that just confuse things?

Tell the truth if asked, if your husband is British-born it'll be pretty obvious that your son is British albeit travelling on a US passport, but if you have a return ticket for December I can't foresee any problem. Turning up with a return ticket for next June or no return ticket at all would cause problems but so long as he has his British passport for coming back in after Christmas you'll be fine.
