UK Tourist Visa/travel ins.
Will a Non EU/EEA citizen have to show proof of travel medical insurance when applying for a tourist visa to visit for 3 weeks? Or is Britain happy to give visitors free NHS treatment?
As we see in Thailand, tourists often cannot pay their hospital bills as they don't have travel insurance.
I know such insurance is required for a Schengen visa.
This subject is presently a topic on a Thai expat forum. Different opinions on UK visa requirement.

Visitors of any nationality, even British citizens, have free access to primary NHS care but not secondary NHS care.
Travel insurance is included on the list of "documents you should not send unless
specifically requested"

Re: UK Tourist Visa/travel ins.
While one does not need to provide proof of health insurance when applying for a tourist visa, one should definitely have medical insurance when visiting the UK.
Britain is definitely NOT happy to provide NHS treatment unless in terms of emergency treatment - especially where hospitalisation is concerned. Even General Practitioners are not obliged to see/treat foreign visitors and can charge for such services.
