Re: Surinder Singh really works
Hi everyone, thanks for the replies so far! She can easily be working in Germany, but another question I had was: We're planning to get married in August before moving in September. Is that long enough or do we have to get married earlier?

Re: Surinder Singh really works
Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum, but in April I was denied a spouse/marriage visa. I'm from the US and my husband is from the UK, been married over 3 years but we fell just short of the financial requirement, so were refused.
Now, we're living and working in Prague and hoping to go the Surinder Singh route. My biggest question is to anyone who can help me out: If we apply for the EEA family permit after only 3 months of working here, will we be granted the permit? I've heard both successes and failures. I still haven't received my working visa for Prague and I've been here 2 months now, so I'm still technically a 'visitor'... anyway, any help is greatly appreciated as we definitely do not want another refusal! Thanks in advance.

Sorry to take away from the OPs super news...
Thanks so much JMS1990.

Sorry to question you too! Did your spouse get a short-term job in the Czech Republic?
We're considering SS too, but am a bit worried about finding a job there. Did your wife become freelance (Zivno List) or was she on an actual contract?
Did you manage to get a residence card there?
Thanks so much!

Re: Surinder Singh really works
Hi chaoclive,
My husband, who's from the UK, and I both got job offers for English teaching positions here in the CR. After 2 months the company we work for took us to the immigration office nearest our town and we applied then. My husband being from the UK didn't need anything, but they told us I had to wait to apply until he received an official document (which isn't true, after I spoke with an immigration specialist). Anyway, that was 4 weeks ago and I still haven't received an invitation in the mail to interview. (Czech Republic requires all married couples to interview, regardless of how long you've been together). So, I'm getting my visa extended on the 18th and hoping for the interview invitation in the next month so I can get on with obtaining the residence card, as we were told it's really good to have that for the non-EEA spouse when applying for Surinder Singh (but not mandatory).
As for proof of residence, we have a tenancy agreement in both our names, my husband has a bank account opened in only his name - they don't do joint accounts here, or at least at the bank we went to, and I couldn't open an account anyway as I don't have my residence card yet. We both have insurance with proof of address on it, and my husband has the utility bills in his name with proof of address.
Sorry for the long-winded reply, but hope that helps!

Re: Surinder Singh really works
It helps a lot! Sounds that you are getting things in order! Well done.
The issue for us may be that we are a same-sex couple and we might have issues getting accommodation in both names, not sure yet though. I know Prague is very open, but not sure about smaller places. Even though registered partnerships exist in CZ, smaller areas may still be a little 'backward' (as is true in many countries).
Fingers crossed that you get everything else sorted out soon! Do keep us posted!
Cheers
