Residency for Italian Citizen through Marriage to UK spouse
Help! Looking for as much advice as possible. I am British and my husband is Italian, we have been married for 3 years and have a child together. We have been living in Italy since we got married and I have residency there. Now we are looking at coming to to live in the UK. The problem is that my husband works away for 3 months at a time so he wouldn't be always in the UK. He spends about 7 months of the year away. How can he get residency?

As it stands he can just move to the UK. What kind of work does he do?

He works on cruise ships. So basically he has no rights to anything unless he works in the UK? We are wanting to purchase a house but apparently we cannot unless he is a resident? Would he be able to stay without problems during his leave (which is 2 months?)

He can buy property; getting a mortgage might be more tricky, but that’s a separate issue from his immigration status.

Thanks for your reply. All the mortgage brokers/banks we have asked have said no unless he has residency. But with his jobs it’s impossible to get it.

He needs Indefinite Leave to Remain, which I don't know how he can get if he's not in the country long enough

But that would only be if he were to stay and work in the UK? With the job he has it doesn't count? As he is away more than 90 days in a year.

He gets paid by an American company into our joint account in the UK
