Default Passport issue at Canberra

My husband is throwing a fit. He's UK born but has an NZ passport so he'll have to go to the UK next month on that if all else fails. 4 weeks ago though, he did send his out of date UK passport to Canberra for renewal. Anyway, something has gone amiss. For a start, payment hasn't been taken from his credit card yet. When he rang today, they kept telling him that he had to check if payment had gone through, etc, etc, etc, then they could tell him where it was in the system.
I have a feeling he paid the fee on a credit card he has now cancelled so we're at a bit of an impasse and the passport office are very vague.

Any ideas on what to do? Can you still front up at the Canberra office to sort out passport matters?

Not really, they like you to call their toll line. Add to that the passport renewal service is moving - may have even moved already so it might be worth checking out when that is going to happen. He might be caught in the middle of that. Renewals are going to happen in NZ shortly!

Did you send it registered mail or other recorded delivery? I'd be chasing up Aus Post in the interim.

If you do come to Canberra they only work between 9am and 2 pm so be warned.

Good luck!

Thanks Quoll, we'll ring again today. I'll wear earplugs after yesterday. Don't know why men get so irate on a phone.

He's lucky that he has a New Zealand passport that he can use.

Can't you get on to the credit card company and see if the payment went through before you cancelled it? If it didn't then Canberra won't have the payment and you can send the money off.

Interesting. I had my British passport renewed in 8 days door to door

Which was great service compared to the useless Oz 'fast service' which I paid extra for once and it still took 4wks. 'kin numpties.

Are you gonna burn your Ozzie passport when you move back to the UK?

I might sell it to a Daily Mail reader, thus raising the average IQ of both countries.
