Not sure what happened to my old expired UK passport.
I was brought to the US when I was a child in 1959. My mother married an American. I had a UK passport at that time. I am now a US citizen and carry a US passport although I no longer want to carry it. I want my UK passport back. In the UK passport application it asks if I have EVER had a British passport and of course I checked yes. They want to know if I still have it or if it was lost or stolen. I don't have it. I believe my step-father discarded it when I became a US citizen but I have no proof of that either. Maybe it was relinquished to the US military when I became a citizen. Who knows. Anyway, how do I answer this question? There is no place to enter "destroyed or relinquished"...or even "I have no idea what happened to it".
The form also asks if I have a Certificate of Registration or Naturalisation. Does that mean was I naturalize into the UK or into the US?
Thanks so much for the help.

Sounds like lost to me. You are not sure and you dont know where it is.
"Certificate of Registration or Naturalisation"
I dont remember this question, but I also dont remember questions about other citizenships other than to include copies of other passports, so I assume, this is for Britain.

That's what I thought too, until they asked where it was lost and how it was lost. Geez, if I knew that it wouldn't be lost. And if it were turned into the US military it wouldn't be lost. And if my step-dad burned it, it wouldn't be lost. I simply don't know what happened to it. I don't want to put down lost only to find out the US Government took it and then be told that I lied about it.

If you were a child then you were likely included on your mother's passport. Are you sure you had your own passport? If not, tick 'no'. If so, then tick 'yes' and put lost. Either way it doesn't really matter because any passport records from that era would have long been destroyed. You'll be making a First Time Adult application regardless whether you still had your old blue passport or not.
'Certificate of Registration or Naturalisation' refers to British citizenship certificates. You won't have one if you were born in the UK.

I would not anticipate them asking follow up questions, if they do, you can answer as you say, "Its lost, I dont know when or how". But I doubt that will happen.

Yes, I definitely had my own. My mother came to the US without me, got married and my nana put me on the RMS Queen Elizabeth in July 1959. I remember having and seeing the passport into my teens. I have filled out the LS01 but even the questions there don't seem to apply. I think "destroyed" should be an option.
