Life in the UK exam
#1
Hi all,
I know I am a very years away from Citizenship. I was wondering if there were still whispers of discontinuing the life in the UK exam?
I rather study and take it now to be "ready" however if they scrap it ? I'm sure ill just have to do something different.
Also, I wonder if its worth buying those books from the government site.

Don't know anything about Life in the UK test being discontinued .... they have changed the company handling the tests.

The Life in the UK test is required for ILR so you’ll need to sit it in the next six months assuming your residence period started in December 2019. Once you have ILR you can immediately apply for naturalisation so you’re probably nine months away from becoming a citizen if that’s something you wish to pursue.
We have a new government but as it was a Labour government who introduced the Life in the UK test I think it’s unlikely it will be scrapped. It’s more likely the syllabus will be changed but since a pass notification does not expire it’s unlikely to cause you any issues.
The books you can buy are published by the Home Office so they will contain everything you’ll need to know in order to pass the test. Whether it’s worth it depends on how confident you are in your UK political, historical and general knowledge. There are some free online tests available so see how you fare with those.

You got your spouse visa in December 2019? So, based on when you actually entered the UK, you could be applying for ILR sometime shortly after this December and then could immediately apply for citizenship.. So not years away.....
