Default Land registry document

Hello,

Is it necessary to submit the original land registry document for where we will be staying in the UK? I have a copy of it, and am hesitant about using the original.

Thanks.

You can get copies from the gov.uk Land registry site for about £3 or £4. It is instant as you can download it once you pay.

If you live in Scotland, I recall reading that they charge about £20 for this service.

You're welcome. They used to show the mortgage applications too, but they removed them as it showed the applicants signature.

Looks like England and Wales title deeds have been reduced to £3 now.

How would a land registry document prove where somebody is staying. Land registry records who owns property and charges on it, not who lives there surely?

I suppose it proves the land exists, but a lease, occupancy agreement (shared home), or mortgage statement is usually sufficient, and quite frankly better than a land registry document as a lease, mortgage statement [I]etc[/I.] proves a right to live in the property.

It's proof the person who owns the house has given permission for the visa holder to stay there.

If they were renting, then the landlord (the owner) has to give his permission, subject to their visa being approved of course.

Accommodation is one of the 3 main parts of a spouse visa.

A land registry document doesn't do that - it just proves who owns it. I suppose if you own it "free and clear" then the LR record would be the only document you have.

As Pulaski has said, a land registry document does not do this.

"Permission to stay" is meaningless without proof that the person giving permission is the legal owner of the property. Is this really so hard for some of you here to understand?

Is that attitude really necessary?

The existance of a mortgage necessarily infers that the mortgagee has the right to occupy or assign tenancy rights to a third party.

If you own a property free and clear, unencumbered by mortgage or lien, then the LR document is all you'll have. Otherwise the LR document might be useful as supporting evidence, but isn't necessarily sufficient if the sponsor of the visa is a tenant or lodger.

It proves no such thing.

I am not sure what OP is trying to do exactly, but if it is simply to prove address land registry document is no use. Utility bills, bank statements, council tax bills, tenancy agreements would prove address.

When we applied for a settlement visa, we were both abroad and all we had to show we had property to live in was our Land Registry document. No bills, no mortgage papers as it was paid off.

And it is perfectly possible to have registered title to a piece of land that has neither a dwelling nor any right to construct or install one.
