Which of the above do you not have please goins?
Which of the above do you have?

I subscribe to both Ancestry and FindMyPast as well as several other type sites. It is my hobby & I have compiled family trees for folk other than myself.

I believe you will have
Your own birth certificate
Your Dad's Indian birth certificate
Your parents marriage certificate
Your own Canadian passport.

I don't have my fathers birth cert
And don't have my grandfathers birth cert. Which would be either Thomas or Hugh

Um. Confused but that's not hard for me.

Your father = Ernest Louis born India
Your grandfather = Thomas ( possibily born Scotland)
1 - married Marie Blanche in India & they had a son Ernest Louis, Marie Blanche was born in India.
2 - married one other lady & they had a son Thomas . Your Dad's half brother.

Your Grt grandfather = Ernest.

Can you remember your Dad having any other half brothers?

looking for my Grand dad (Scotland) Page 1 RootsChat.Com

Yes thank you Formula. I am more than well aware of all the above. ;)

My question was about goins actual memory. Not un-verified assorted documentation found over the 'net & which may or may not be a family members.

What I wrote was
"can you remember your Dad having any other half-brothers"

To be clear for you. More than the one.

Hi goins.

You wrote this on Rootschat

"My fathers half brother --- was english Thomas Waddel....i do remember him vaguely"

Is this correct or not please?

This is not about in or out of wedlock. In other words from what you wrote your grand dad had more than one son to more than one wife/partner.

Just trying to gain a clear picture here .

His grandmother could have had more than one marriage/relationship.

True but would the surname have been Waddel ?

Dad was Louis Earnest.
Half brother may have been Thomas from what has been written.

FWIW Goins. I found out I had a half sister on the day my Dad died.
Stuff happens.

True, unless the second son was illegitimate and was given his mother's married surname.

True.
Happened to my Dad. He was given my grandmother's dead husband's surname.
He didn't realise he was illegitimate until he needed his birth cert. Did the math and realised it wasn't possible.

Oh the tangled webs that are woven.

Interesting ..... I thought I was stretching a point to cover an error I made, and you correctly called me out on it. :o I had never imagined that your family would prove the scenario that I had described, had actually happened.

Re: Going Back

The surname was 'orrible IMO. We were teased quite a lot about it as kids. Ironic to discover the name never belonged to any of us in the first place.

My paternal grandmother was --- ahem --- a bit of a one.
