Default Experiences sitting IELTS

Putting this in the UK forum, as I know a large number of people sit IELTS as part of migrating to the UK, but I'm also interested in hearing from anyone migrating to other countries such as Australia and Canada who sit the exams, preferably in a UK IELTS Exam Centre.
I'm mainly interested in how people find the actual experience of taking IELTS - rather than how easy/difficult the exam is.
Things like - what sort of info were you sent beforehand, how easy was it to book, what were the staff at the exam centre like - helpful, empathetic, dismissive of any issues you raised? Was the equipment good, with clear instructions?
Were you generally impressed or pleased with the experience - as much as anyone can be with an exam! Or was the whole thing left a bad taste in your mouth?

Also interested in hearing from anyone who has taken Cambridge English exams for any reason as well,
All experiences welcome - and if you'd rather not share on the forum, I always accept private messages

Don't sit the exam after a night shift

Been a while but was straight forward to book - provided there was space available. Was easier to book on the academic test for that reason - and that suited me anyway.

I had time constraints on the day, and spoke to staff to get an early slot for the speaking test so I could get back for young spark.

Whole day seemed well organised with some flexibility, but fairly rigid off the group tests.

Gosh yes, after a night shift would be super-tough - and that's coming from the Queen of Night Shifts

Yes, I'd imagine much less demand for the academic test. I guess space available could be a big issue, with limited venues and equipment available.
I've heard reports of unreliable equipment in some places - resulting in situations like a 17 year old having to resit a section 3 or 4 times, 2 months apart each time, due to faulty equipment part-way through.

Did you find the staff helpful (as far as they could be)? Getting corny about it, did you feel like the proverbial "valued customer" or more like a "necessary evil"?
