Default Child UK Passport - Born in US

Hi,

I am UK citizen father of child born in US. Now I know she gets automatic citizenship through me so I applied for her UK passport.

They told me I need to send:

Her birth certificate (Got it)
My birth certificate (Got it)

The following I also need to send but I have questions on:

Maternal and paternal grandparents birth certificates and marriage certificates.

In regards to my wife’s parents, they’re US citizens never been to UK so this won’t help to establish her claim to citizenship.

My parents live in the UK so am I going to have to have them send me their documents here in US first so I can send them with my documents, because that’s such a long process.

I wondered if anyone had this situation and if I could get away with just sending her US birth certificate (which lists me as her father) as well as my birth certificate from UK which lists my parents names and places of birth, which are both from the UK anyway.

Surely this is all I should need. But it says application may be delayed if I don’t send all of this stuff.

Thanks for any advice. I am trying to figure it out asap as I have already paid and had her identity confirmed, so I am ready to send documents.

You can try and send just your birth certificate but the likelihood is that the passport examiner will ask you for your parents’ certificates.

Yeah I may just do it. Just thought I’d see if anyone had this situation happen to them and their thoughts. If I don’t hear anything I’ll just try to get everything together.

Just to save a bit of time, and so all the documents aren’t crossing the Atlantic more than necessary, can you send your documents to your parents for them to add their certificates, then get them to post all together?

We have the same situation. We didn't have to send my husband's parents' birth certificates, as I recall. However, we did register the children's births when they were born in the US. Then a few years later we requested the passports. It may be that because they had already been registered, we faced fewer hurdles with the passports.
