Default British by descent immigrating with child

Hello,

My husband and I have British Citizenchip by descent as our respective parents were born in the UK whilst we were born in Oz. We have both received British passports and are going to immigrate to the UK where we have both visited but never resided.

We have a 3 year old child who was born in Oz and has an Australian passport. I know we can apply for citizenship for her once we've been there 3 years but I'm a bit confused as to what we need to do for her to enter and reside for the first 3 years? I've looked at Family Permits but they seem to apply to EEA nationals which I don't think we are (or does this capture UK citizens also)?

She will obviously need to go to school and get healthcare and all the other things a kid needs so I presume she needs some form of documentation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I feel like I'm going around in circles on the UKVI website!

Many thanks,

Anne

You will need to apply for a child settlement visa for your daughter. As you are both British citizens however she will receive Indefinite Leave to Enter the UK. After three years of residing together in the UK you can apply to register her as a British citizen under Section 3(5) British Nationality Act 1981 which will give her British citizenship otherwise than by descent.

can the child enter the UK as a visitor with the British parents, then apply for the SET(f) visa after entry?

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...r-18-form-setf

Would the fee be different applying from within the UK rather than outside the UK?

What are the current SET fees?

You cannot switch from a visitor visa onto any other kind of visa from within the UK. The child settlement fees vary slightly as they are charged in local currency but should be roughly the same.
