Default Birth certificate for passport

Has anyone had any experience dealing with one of the city registrars when requesting for a birth certificate ?

I need to get a copy of my mom's birth certificate as she has appeared to have lost her original and I need it to get my first British passport (I'm in Canada) I need her birth certificate as I'm claiming citizenship by descent. I have my mom's passport that was valid at the time I was born and my full birth certificate, so I'm wondering if I even need hers ?.

I understand its about £15 but the Glasgow city council website doesn't say approximately how long it takes to process, so just looking for some insight

Thanks
