Default Applying for Spouse Visa via savings only

Hello All,

I am currently well on my way with saving money for my return to the UK with my Non-EU spouse.

Although i will be able to apply for the visa with savings alone i read somewhere that i would also need to have a job lined up in the UK prior to applying?

Does anyone know if this is true or have applied via the savings only route before?

I obviously plan on getting work when i return to the UK but had not planned on having a job on our immediate return. We'd hoped to take a couple of months off to relax and have our long awaited honeymoon around europe before settling back down into daily life. By the time we return to the UK i would have been working more or less 10 years abroad doing 2 jobs 6 days a week with days that add up to 13 hrs. So i think a rest is well deserved and needed .

Anyway enough of my crap life haha if anyone has any info on my question i'd appreciate it.

Cheers

BLB

Hi Ben,

No. Once you're gathered the 62500 quid you'll have to hold on to it for 6 months then you can apply for the spousal permit with no further financial requirement i.e. you can wait before you start working again. Note that you'd also need to have the same amount for the next stage after 2.5 years but you'll presumably be working by then so you can take your salary into account at that stage.

Thanks Novocastrian.

That's pretty much what i was expecting as what would be the point of showing you can support someone for the 2.5 years duration by having the savings if you then had to support them again by also having a job lined up, that would be a bit excessive!

But you never know with the UKBA so i just wanted to ask someone to check.

Thanks for your reply
