Applying for the Correct Visa to Uk
Applying for the wrong visa in the first place is one of the big headaches in the Immigration industry. People develop a relationship over cyberspace and through social networking and then think it is relatively easy to get a tourist visa to visit the country of their intended partner. It is not, the rules and regulations are getting tighter and many approach the visa process nievely.
A Tourist visa is usually a lot cheaper, as much as five times cheaper, than a fiancee or spouse visa, and Consulates are very alert to applications by intending partners submitting on a Tourist Visa. it is the wrong Application and will lead to a waste of time money and effort and a definite Refusal.
Too many people are entering the 'marriage stakes' with little or no preparation, certainly their documentation is underprepared. There is no doubt that there are complexities in the visa processing which frustrate us all but terrorism issues are here to stay and top notch security harms nobody.
Yes we live in a global village and can marry whoever we want and whenever we want, wherever - and even however, on certain conditions, but not all countries are as liberal in our application of religion as Europe and many people have a misguided impression of what awaits them when they arrive from a foreign country.
By the same token, there are those in the global village who are exploiting and being exploited. Look at the fuller picture and apply for the correct Visa, if it is genuinely as a tourist, then your intentions to be a tourist will be evident on application to the Consulate, supported by evidence of financial means, rather than a disguised application to visit your cyberspace Partner to see if the relationship has some mileage. Wont wash with the Consulate!

Re: Applying for the Correct Visa to Uk
The point of the posting, Penny, was to comment on the situation where people frequently apply for the wrong Visa, there are several contributors on the Forum who appear under the apprehension that a tourist visa can be used as the means to get a fiancee into their homeland instead of the more expensive fiancee visa.
I hope that it will make people realize and think a little more deeply about their situation before applying for the Visa. It is relevant for the Uk because there has been tough new leglislation which makes it difficult for a Brit to marry a foreigner without going through an approval process.
I wish to encourage people to find their true love, in whatever country they are. I myself am married to and live in Indonesia. I do not wish people to proceed in vain and then find refusal and rejection when in fact, they could have been successful in application for a different category of visa
