He can do but using a AUD card would be preferable.

Oh, right. Is that because it looks better because he's applying from Australia? I just thought that he could avoid the fx thing if he used his UK card.

Since he’ll be paying in AUD he should be using his AUD card.

Hi, we’ve just applied from Australia. Were given prices in AUD for visa and IHS, used an AUD credit card (CBA) and were charged 3% ($200) as the merchant is based overseas. It’s certainly not an inexpensive exercise.
