Expat in qatar coming to Hong Kong for holidays
Good morning everyone,
Myself and my husband are coming to Hong Kong for a holiday late September and we are looking at hotels....can you help with where and which is good.
We aren't looking for party central as plan on spending the week sightseeing without the dreaded hangover so close to an MTR and on Hong Kong island.
Can you suggest any good hotels?
Thanks in advance
C.

If you intend using the MTR then why does the hotel have to be on HK Island???

Relative to most places Hong Kong is a very small place. Its only 3 minutes on the MTR from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island. I would suggest staying in any of the many harbour front hotels on either side but if you do make sure you reserve a harbour facing room.

Certainly the night time view from Kowloon to HK Island knocks spots off the other way round.
Might try the YMCA.
Not cheap but swimming pool on the third floor?? looking at HK Island and a lot of rooms facing the harbour.
Of course the Peninsular is even better.

Depends a lot on your budget. Hong Kong hotels are not cheap although there are budget options. Wanchai and Causeway Bay are very convenient locations with plenty of hotel choices close to the MTR but other types of public transport (buses, minibuses and trams) are very efficient and inexpensive. You should get a stored value Octopus card for public transport (at any MTR station customer service centre, including the airport - it can be topped up at the MTR stations or 7-11, Circle K stores and elsewhere) - then you don't need change if you use a bus - drivers do not give change if you don't have the exact fare.

Brilliant thanks for the info.
Think we are looking at staying at the East hotel? Looks nice and mid range price.
Will be coming over late September so if there is any festival or occasion would up let me know please.
Also hear the weather is nice in September? Coming from 50 degree heat with 75% humidity anything is nice

It certainly won't be 50 degrees, more like late 20s early 30s but humidity could be > 75%.
It looks like your hotel is on the east side of the Island (hence its name !) and close to the MTR and you are only about 20 mins from central so nicely located.
I assume you will be doing all the usual touristy stuff, but as a long time HK resident I would suggest that you also consider taking a junk trip (boat trip) to one of the many beaches (yes there are beaches in Hong Kong !!!). Usual thing is for the boat to leave arout 10 or 11am and return around 5 or 6 pm. Depending on what you arrange you can have food / drinks prepared on board by the boat provider and /or visit a local seafood restaurant near the beaches . Its a great day out for both adults and kids. A number of restaurants have their own junks and they provide everything, you just turn up.
If you are really active and if time permits you might also want to consider hiking. There are many good trails in Hong Kong many of which lead to nice quiet sandy beaches.

+ 1 on the advice on junk trips and hiking, definitely one of the things that most visitors miss.
