Default Chinese Driving License

Hi all,

I am hoping to get a Chinese driving license in Shanghai, I already have a British license and understand that to obtain a Chinese license I have to provide a notarised copy of my UK license. Does this mean I need the paper part of the license or is the card enough? I am under the impression that the paper part is required, however I have lost my original document and I believe the DVLA no longer supplies the paper counterpart.
