Default Brit living in Morelos

Hello all!

As the title suggests, I moved out over a year ago to start a life in Mexico. The UK routine and organisation began to bore me and so as soon as I graduated, I took the first plane to Mexico!

I know this was a huge risk, but I really wanted a challenge. However I didn't know just how much of a challenge it was going to be and more to the point, how difficult it was to find a job over here!! I am half-spanish and so thought it was going to be a breeze! The only jobs that seem to be on offer are sales execs (i studied business management at uni) or as an english teacher! I reeeally don't like teaching and so I am writing here to see how other Brits have done over here, and just any general info!

P.S I ideally want a job in Morelos, though it seems more and more likely, that I may have to move to Mexico City!

Assuming you are there on a regular 6 month tourist visa you may find yourself limited to employers who are prepared to jump through INM's hoops to secure you an FM3 'Cargo de Confianza' (ie: a working visa). Teaching is a good way in, most specialist language schools will process the paperwork for you and it gives you a good insight into 'how things work' in Mexico.

Being half-Spanish, are you aware that that gives you preference for Mexican citizenship? You may want to make sure your Spanish identity is documented and current.

Thanks Adrian for your reply! I am indeed on a normal tourist visa wanting to change to the FM3. The teaching option is starting to seem more and more likely as the only real option I have since apparently being half-spanish, half-english isn't seen as that BIG of an advantage as I first imagined!

As for Mexican citizenship, I don't get what you mean when you say "preference". I would still have to wait the 5 years on an fm3/fm2 right??

Mexican citizenship law provides for an accelerated process for those who originate from the 'Iberian Peninsula' (ie: Spain), among others.

The SRE page explaining all this is here
http://www.sre.gob.mx/index.php/cart...insula-iberica

It requires you to hold an FM2 for at least 2 years before making the application. So...1 year on an FM3 + 2 years FM2 = 3 years before you qualify for citizenship of the United Mexican States.
