Default Shipping Car

Has anyone gone through the process of shipping there car to Cayman, I understand that the cost of a second hand car is sky high and most are heaps.
Any advice re costs and a reputable shipping company.

I heard it is a bit of a hassle. My OH shipped a jeep from Miami but it was soon after Ivan (2004) when cars were needed. . Duty will be high I would think - have you researched importing cars to Cayman? Where would you ship from - the US?

Second hand cars are not expensive at all. You can buy something for about $2 -4k..

Dungeon. First: why would you want to ship a car here?

There is import-duty (normally 29%, I think) on the cost + shipping + marine insurance. Most second-hand cars are NOT "heaps" and are cheap. My wife and I both drive 1997 Toyota Windoms that we bought locally for CI$4500 a few years ago. The amount we need to spend on maintenance is minimal. Some people import used cars from Japan, but it's not worth the bother.

As it happens, just a few hours ago I published a new blog about Cayman's traffic, which may or may not interest you.

I don't think you've yet read Cayman's "New Resident" magazine. You should do, before you go any further. I'm surprised your employer didn't put you on to it when you first got your job!
