15% gratuity disappearing?

15% gratuity disappearing?
I was at Salty's Rock'n Roll bingo last night and when the bill arrived, the waitress explained that the standard 15% gratuity was no longer being applied to the the bill. Apparently several other premises have also taken it off their bill. Something to do with a dispute with the Government. First I've heard. Not that I'm complaining because I disagree with it anyway. And before you say anything, I DID actually leave 15% as a tip! Does anyone know any more on this?

Re: 15% gratuity disappearing?
I don't go out much, Jamesy, so I can't give any first-hand info. Nobody has mentioned anything to me, though. And I must say it seems unlikely that many places would drop it. I'll ask around. (I was brought up to tip 10%, so I've always thought 15% was a bit heavy - especially when it's automatically added on, thus luring unsuspecting newcomers to tip voluntarily on top of the 15%!)

Suggested tipping here is 18-20%, with 15% being the lowest.
BUT the gratuity is only automatically added to the bill if it is for a large party ...... usually more than 6 or 8 people.
