Hi all
I have a job interview coming up with a company in Jamaica.. however the thing that worries me the most is the safety aspect. I know that nowhere is 100% safe, although it does worry me that rental flats/houses are all advertised as 24 hour security or bars on the windows.. The money would be quite good (probably better than other caribbean islands) but there is no price that can be put on personal safety!
I have lived in the caribbean before, so I know what to expect on island life.
Thanks

Sorry to be negative but I would not say Jamaica is the same as any other island. I live in Grand Cayman and we do not need bars on windows.....in fact I don't think I have seen a single dwelling here with bars. Though Cayman is known as one of the safer islands so maybe I am naive. I do know however that most Jamaicans I speak to here, although they love and miss their home they would not want to return and are much happier being out of the crime.
Maybe it depends on where in Jamaica you are living, if Kingston I would say outright no to a job but maybe other areas are better.
Jamaicans on the whole are a very friendly people, my daughters teachers here are all Jamaican and they are lovely. They teach kids to be leaders and not followers. Jamaicans have had it pretty tough so they can be tough but they are also friendly.
Anyway....I digress.......
