Batten down the hatches, grab some extra batteries and get a few extra provisions. Hurricane Irma is on it's way to hit the leeward islands and further to the west... Hurricane Irma to strengthen as it eyes the Leeward Islands ~ WIC News

Thank you BEVS... this is a huge hurricane and it's going to do some damage. Everyone in the path prepare yourselves and get to safety. Very powerful winds and a massive storm - growing larger by the minute - now a category 4. God help the small islands....

HURRICANE IRMA
I always find this (above link) a useful site, and reasonably accurate.

Thank you Gordon - I also like this one as it's interactive... just drag the map to where you need to look and zoom in and out for a better look. Intellicast - Weather Active Map

I'm due to fly to the UK from Orlando on Sunday. I'm guessing this is going to screw up my plans.

Cutting it a bit fine, but you might be lucky. Maybe you could change your ticket to fly via somewhere a bit further north - fly across the ocean from Atlanta or Charleston, maybe.

To further complicate things, if Irma chinks further west, it could head directly to us in Pensacola. As my wife is not travelling with me, I wouldn't want her to have to deal with that alone.

If you are booked on a flight thats going to be impacted by a hurricane don't worry about it it's the airlines job to get you where you going or to the nearest practical airport they can but not necessarily in your time scale. They will either cancel the flight and refund you or more likely they will delay 24 hours or redirect to somewhere nearby and just leave you there, in some jurisdictions they do have a duty to get you a taxi or bus or whatever to where you going.
