Dear all,
apologies for asking again, but we desperately need some more information.
The case is that I received a job offer in the medical field on TCI with a salary around 7.5k per month, tickets and household transport as well as health care insurance covered. With income tax around 5%, malpractice around 400 USD, schooling around 700 USD for both kids (7, 3y) we'd roughly have around 5.9k for a family of four without having paid rent, etc
Although we are from Europe, I spent a year in the Caribbean as a child and always wanted my kids (both around 7) to experience the same - living a year abroad, learning a new language, experiencing a new culture and overcoming all the challenges that come with this. We thought our kids to grow and develop mentally during our time abroad plus having a memorable family experience together.
Now, after doing some research, we aren't so sure anymore after reading on incredible housing prices, shootings, etc. Sun protection is another topic, but can be solved.
That's why we'd love and appreciate to hear your opinions based on what you know - which is easily more than what we have at hand.
Thanks a lot for your ideas, suggestions or associations that might help us to make a more informed decisions. If you know anyone who might be of help, we'd be more than thankful!
Have a good day, Peter

Morning
What was your previous User Name on BE as it appears you have been here before asking questions. We can assist you in getting back your former User Name if you want so that your history can be solidified.
What is TCI? Knowing which island might help with answers.

thanks for asking - as far as to my knowledge, I had no previous account with you. TCI was supposed to be the abbreviation for Turks and Caicos as I found many forum posts referring to the islands this way.
Kind regards

I'm going to assume Providenciales. I don't have any children but I've been here a while.
Accommodation is difficult to find so look to budget around 2k for a 2bedroom, not sure what you mean by household transport? but you will need a car whilst here, this can run from a minimum of 5k (suzuki swift or toyota vitz) upwards depending on the car, SUV's are around 10k.
groceries, if your wife isn't working and can shop around you'll save money by going to sunny's foods, IGA and cash and carry but I would say probably about $1k for groceries, maybe more. im a family of 2 and probably spend around 6-700 a month on groceries. fuel depends on car but look to spend about 300 a month for a small car doing lots of driving. internet is around $100, electricity depends on the accommodation but between 2-400 a month if you have AC on a lot. Water if not cistern would probably be another 100 a month
the current crime I wouldn't worry too much about, you basically want to live from blue mountain westward, that's blue MOUNTAIN not blue hills..
all things considered, people earn a lot less than 7.5k a month and make it work here. one factor you should consider is whether your partner will get bored.. there is only so much beach someone can cope with and unless you're used to small village living, seeing the same faces day in day out can give some people cabin fever so you'll want to budget getting off the rock. flights to Miami are usually around $300, and flights to NYC sometimes are under this ($228 currently).
best of luck and if you need any further information let me know.
