caribbean
I have been reading loads !!!!!! of stuff - i mean everything, internet, newspapers, mags etc, on the caribbean & have read that St Lucia crime rate is not as bad as Barbados - I know i sound desparate like I want someone to make a decision for me but really all I want is some feedback from someone who's been there and can give me an honest opinion. I must confess to being swayed by the prop prices in St Lucia but long term has anyone got anything to say?????Maybe we should go for broke & go for Dominica which is a beautiful island, we could afford a plantation house there and it might be the next up & coming island!!!!! but if not we could do our stones on a property there!!!!!! please reply

Re: caribbean
I live in Barbados. I think crime here is lower than in St. Lucia. I know the murder rate there is about 50% higher, per capita, than in Barbados.

Barbados is more expensive than other islands, but you are paying for quality. There is not much to do in these other islands and you may get bored. There are over 100 great restaurants in Barbados, not all expensive. You could have local food for US$5 if you wish.
The property market here in Barbados is hot, and you could easily pay US$1 million for a house in Sugar Hill or Royal Westmoreland. However, there are lots of nice houses for US$500,000 and you could find a nice house for US$200,000 and spend another US$100,000 fixing it up. One bedroom apartments in Rockley Resort are selling for US$140,000 with about US$200 a month in maintenance fees.
