Well today is our Three Year Canniversary.
To me, it seems eons ago that we landed at Vancouver Airport - all wide eyed and excited. How confused we were when we had soup to start at our Hotel on the first night and then bought us crackers to dip rather than bread! We were up and out of the Hotel at 7am wandering around Vancouver trying to find somewhere to have pancakes
.
My pancake obsession has now gone but I am probably the only British person who is addicted to the bacon here! I can't stand UK bacon but could happily eat a whole pack of the stuff here!
We started out in Kelowna and the first 3 months we loved our time there. The sun was shining, the beach was nearby and everything was rosey. Then we moved over to Westbank (now West Kelowna). David's job was turning out to be a bit of a nightmare - things we were promised turned out to not be true and things suddenly became not so rosey. We couldn't sell our UK house, we were earning what we thought we would, but the cost of living was a lot higher than we had planned.
We chose not to bring our UK furniture out with us and this was rather foolish as it cost us lots of money to replace our nice stuff with rather shite stuff!
Anywho, we rented a bloody awful house in Westbank which seemed to be made of paper as you could hear EVERYTHING going on in neighbours houses - and these weren't neighbours who were joined to us! We managed to sell our UK investment property and then came up with the "Lets drive across Canada in the winter" plan.
That drive was both fantastic and awful - thankfully we missed all the big snow storms - though I will forever rib David for filling up the windscreen wash with just water...days we went without being able to wash the screen, having to stop every 5 mins to wipe the windows in very cold weather...not amusing. Also, having the car windows freeze up on the inside was something different! I would love to do the trip again - this time in the summer and in a rather posh RV!
We arrived in NS and just loved it - probably because it felt more like home than out West. We rented a nice house for 6 months and then bought this house - which as you all know as driven me nearly around the twist ever since we bought it!
I am now working and am loving it - I have a great boss (he does come on BE so I best be nice..lol) and really enjoy getting out of the house and actually using my brain and hope that good things will come of this.
Our eldest daughter will be starting Grade 2 this September and sounds like a Nova Scotian - I found an old video of her the other day and she sounds like someone from Mary Poppins on it! Our youngest is at pre-school and loves it and the more time she spends at the childminders and school the more Canadian she sounds. I, of course, still sounds as posh as ever...
Of course, lots of things really annoy me - I won't start or I will be moaning for days! I do remember that lots annoyed me about the UK as well so I think that is just normal!
Now as you know I am Amy and my OH is David and he doesn't come on here but I will allow him a sentence or two today, as it is his Canniversary as well:
"The kids like it here". A man of few words..

Fascinating that you moved from one coast to another. It will be interesting to see what we make of Vancouver when we land in August.
Cheers

Ahh I am very glad to have met you and all the lovely Expats here in NS - it makes settling in much much easier to have you all here - even if you wrestle in my front room :0)

Fab post - although I saw the lovely boss mentioned, but not the lovely colleague?!

And you're not the only one that prefers Canadian bacon, I do too (thought I was the only freak on here that did!).
Happy Canniversary, here's to many more happy years to come.

Congratulations. Wishing you many more happy years.
I have watched your story with interest as we really wanted to move to BC interior when we applied, but have decided Nova Scotia is a much more sensible option for us. Glad to hear you are loving it, despite the niggles.
I would love to drive across the county, but would definitely go for the summer option! It is no fun at all when you can't clear a frozen windscreen. We once hired a car in Feb that had clearly had the window washers filled with water. Very scary.
I raise my glass to you. Cheers!
