I arrived in Canada 3 years tonight and would definately do it again. I love Saskatchewan, I love the people, the pace of live, I love my little cottage although I never thought I would say that because we only bought it cos it was the only one we could afford at the time. I love my truck even though it guzzles gas
I find it a challenge that Canadian employers want people with paper qualifications and not the 30 years management and project experience that I have. That employers can't be bothered to reply if you send in a resume and that I have to travel 120k every day to get to work - but that's ok I have a good job (not well paid) and it's only 4 blocks away from my home.
My downside was my mother died in March, a few hours after I had booked my flight to Wales I had a call to say she had passed away. I then had that long 22 hour journey 3 flights to get home and now suffer the guilt that I wasn't there, I'm an only child so my family had to take over and it's that last thing I wanted was for my children to take on my responsibility.
But taking all into consideration I'm here to stay

Congratulations, Heres to next year!
Sorry about your mum, something similar happened to me, and its a rough deal. There's no easy way to lose a parent I suppose, but I bet there was some comfort for her that she knew you were happy in Canada.

Also want to pass on my condolences for your Mum, it's a tough one and especially hard when you were so close to seeing her, as IainK says, take comfort in knowing that she knew you are happy here. Don't let the guilt become a burden, my husband has suffered for nearly two years for feeling unnecessary guilt, I understand the pain you are feeling though
It sounds as though you are happy with your lot though, which is fantastic
