So glad things worked out in the end, I know it was a fraught time for you both for a while.
Many congrats on the first year achieved, best wishes for the many yet to come...

......And happy canniversary from me too......how could you forget, Charlie!!!!

Don't like the sound of the cost of insurance out there! Was that with supporting insurance docs to prove no claims and previous cover etc??

A year ago today I left the UK, the family (purple80 and 3 sproglets were to follow in August).

My arrival in Canada was very smooth, my flight landed in a snow storm, which I thought was brilliant. Immigration was stress free and after 20 minutes I walked away with my work permit.

I was not due to start my new job until 31st March so I had a week to get to grips with my new country, I found arranging my bank account and SIN card easy, I rented a hire car, and started to get my bearings. Over the next couple of weeks I bought a car, and to Charlie's horror even bought some plaid shirts!

Everything was pretty straight forward, apart from the heart failure I had on learning the cost of my car insurance would be $4000 for a year! Yes, that is really $4000 a bloody year!

The next few months passed without a hitch, I rented a house in Bolton in June, and Charlie and the children arrived on the 25th August, I had to return to the UK for a week as we had a few child custody issues.

This last year has been one of the most challenging and rewarding, it was very hard being separated from Charlie and the children, but skype helped alot.

My job is great, I love the positive attitude that they have. I believe I will have many more opportunities here, than I would have had in the UK. Since Charlie and the children arrived we have bought another car, managed to sell the house in the UK, and buy a house in Bolton.

What more could I ask for?

4000 is a lot. I have a audi a4 in BC and only pay about 1800 per year.

I know terrible isn't it, not sure how I managed to forget it was on the calendar.....Chris says thanks to everyone for their good wishes.

Yes we had all the supporting documents for the insurance, it is just coming up for renewal so we will have to see what that comes out as.

Congratulations to you all! That car insurance is shocking - I've just had to take a blood pressure pill and that's just reading your post!!!
