well i just realised its year today we landed in toronto and picked up a twp.
on the 27th we landed in manitoba YEEHAAA.
On the whole everything has went much better than expected .
even finding our house we were in the right place at the right time,the bad times were shirleys car accident before xmas(passenger in car hit by grain truck) and myself doing my hamstring/sciatic nerve end of january.
our daughter has grown in confidence and attitude lol.
in a nutshell we left at the time, a job i had had for over 20yrs ,shirley 26yrs sold up ,sent over 2 skids of belongings and went for it.
2nd thoughts never occured ,we had nothing left to go back to .
our only mistake ,we should have done this when we married 20yrs ago..
our pnp arrived the other wk sooo when the tax moneys in away goes our pr appliction.lol.

Just noticed Dumfries on your thread - so i thought i would say hello - glad to hear you have settled so well. Do you miss anything from Dumfries at all? We arrived here in Red Deer from Crocketford just before Christmas. Everything is great so far!

Hi James, My husband and I are both from Dumfries, we lived in Troqueer area before coming to Edmonton, Alberta, went to Dumfries Academy, I am 41(just)he is 37.

Bit warmer where you are than me, its -27(-35 windchill)this morning!

We dont miss anything about Dumfries, we left 6 years ago, all I remember is junkies with hoodys and old ladies being robbed on Buccleuch street bridge in broad daylight for their pension!:curse:

How are you finding Red Deer, I only visited once and found the staff in the restaurant not as friendly as Edmonton, now before all the Red Deer people jump down my throat, I did say once and am just asking!

Whats your relatives name? We lived in Crocketford for 2 years - Heathhall before that. What did you do in Dumfries? - i worked with Hardies (contractor) and mandy worked at Thornhill primary.

Red Deer is really nice - its fantastic for the kids. There is so much more to de here than back home. The 'downtown' area is pretty shabby compared to the rest but i think they are doing it up. I was in Edmonton yesterday for work - big difference in traffic and overall size - dont know if i could cope with driving through there everyday! Have been to an oilers game though so i guess i am now obliged to follow them even though they are not so good just now!

Glad you are enjoying Red Deer, must have found the drive to work to Edmonton a bit long though?!
You get used to the traffic, you just have to look out for yourself and be agressive at the same time.

I love the Oilers, personally I think they need to get rid of Mcradish(Tavish), dont think he motivates them very well, my husband is not so keen on hockey, he'll go to a game if we get good tickets but thats about it.

Mandy, what was her last name, I know some people from Thornhill, some real characters!, hmmm, Nicola McCubbing(never really got along)she married some guy with big ears called Adam but I think they have split up now, Hardies, cant think off the top of my head, only contractor I know was a big fat guy that drove a digger thingy(technical)winky was his name?

What made you choose Red Deer, I have noticed that since I came to Canada and used this site all the time that people are going to different places now, did you visit before you moved, I know one couple John&? shoot forget the last name, they lived at Heathhall, they came to Edmonton but only lasted 3 days and they visited first!

Senga's other half Gary Kerr was a foreman at Hardies - so i guess they knew David Hardie quite well. They are in Perth in Oz.

There is a Gibsons the blacksmiths in Heathhall - but a different Gibsons - Stuart used to work with Glen Davidson in Thornhill, Millers in Dumfries and on a farm near Lauriston.

Holtys name is Ian Holt - not sure where he worked before Hardies - think it was Chalmers and Oakbank - he has a brother called Donald Ross (skip).

I'm 33 and mandys 31 and both went to Kirkcudbright academy so dont know that many dumfries academy folks - but i did go travelling with a guy at Uni who was from Dumfries and i think his family stayed near the troqueer area - Paul McMurdo.

Guys i know who were maybe in or around your year would be guys from Hardies - Charlie McCreadie/Graham Crofts/George Skilling/Gary Kerr/Bobby Jones/Mark Callender canny mind any more minds gone blank!

I really miss the New Dragon chinese, the chinese food is garbage compared to the UK, funny thing is the lady who owned the place told me that I wouldn't like the chinese food over here, how about you?
Whenever we go back I pig out, chick breast curry with CHIPS(not fries)mmmmm, salt & chilli chicken, mmmmmmmmm, going for Chinese tonight at the Golden Rice Bowl, it is OK but nothing compared to New Dragon.

Ok, I am making myself hungry now, so will shut-up before I snack & ruin my appetite
