55% deductions in NL? You'd have to be earning astronomical amounts of money for that to be possible. (if it is even possible)

I'm not a tax expert, but your deductions sound very high.
You should be paying approx. 25% at $50K, 30% at $100K. These numbers include your tax-free allowance.
Better fill in that tax return form then.

I've not been able to come up with a basic wage that gets even close to 55% deductions. Even earning $1million the total comes to 41%.
There are maximums on EI and CPP which total like $3500 (I believe) so I think it's practically impossible to get near 55% with the income tax component.

So you pay $21 union dues on every $100 earned. On $100k that's $21k per year. I'm sorry to say, but I don't believe you, and if by any strange quirk it were true, then more fool you for belonging to such a ridiculously money grabbing organization.

ok, seeing as Im on holiday...
this is a normal weeks stoppages for me in NS
1. federal tax $329.96
2. CPP $64.18
3. EI $24.96
4. union dues A $54.56
5. union dues B $10.75
6 union dues F $20.00
gross pay $ 1,363.94
net pay $ 882.53
I cant be bothered working the percentage out, but quite high I believe... thats about $500 in stoppages each normal week... i am on near enough $40 an hour, but take home way less than I did in the UK, and I dont get holiday pay as such, we get that added on our pay each week, but who banks that every week ?? lol

So you take home about 65% of your gross pay....sounds about right to me.......
Your 'Union Dues' are about 6% of your pay and possibly include pension and Group Health????

no way did i pay ( as you worked out ) 35% of my wage on stoppages at home.. I dont even want the CPP.... thats a rip off... anyway, not too bothered as it won't affect us too longer..

pension is called CPP, so thats extra, so how come I'm on $40/hour ( £30 ) in the UK I was on £18/hour... but cleared a higher net pay ???

Not sure did you pay union fees in UK?? also if you wish to convert............ $40 is about 25 quid not 30 by the way

We have a calculator aswell.lol.. its actually £26.66 by the way.. no union fees for scaffolders in the UK mate.... so anyway, £26.. a good hourly rate.. more than the Uk rate, however i come out with less here... therefore my stoppages must be higher here ?? agree ?
