Re: 54 years and counting
most definitely
I did entertain the notion of returning permanently in 1998, I actually stayed about five months, but nothing came of it
just as well
this will be my final resting place when the time comes

My grandparents came in August 1964, right before Malta became independent. They still have their old British passports in the safe somewhere. They spend 28 years here, left in 1992 to go back home, returned in 1999 bought a condo to stay in part time, then left again for good in 2014. So another 15 odd years of 6 mos/6 mos.
My grandfather has always had a soft spot for Gozo and is happiest there. My grandmother would rather have stayed here near her family if she had the choice. She feels more independent here, but she's built up a life and friends there and gets on.
I know they regret leaving when they did because my uncle was only 14 at the time, and they essentially left my mum at 19 going to uni alone by herself here and took her brother with them.
