5 weeks and LOVING it.

after everything we went thru to get here its great to be together again as a family. baby (2 yo) is still very nervous when daddy goes out, 4 months is a long time if you are only a teeny. the kids are settling well into school, 10 yo dd is settled in g6 and has a bunch of freinds already, 12yo (autistic) ds is doing ok at school, hes in g8, thats a learning curve for him and school but they are bending over backwards to help him.
downsides, im still stuck without a car so have to taxi ds to school every day, thats cosing some $$s.
deposits are a bit of a squeeze, $400 for gas, $300 water, and for some reason this time im having trouble getting a mobile without a hefty deposit too. but that will come when i can afford it.
prince george is very nice, very pretty nestled in the trees, which are turning yellow and brown now we near the end of september. the smell from the pulp mills is a bit weird, half sulpher half seaside! but that has only been really whiffy twice in the last month. we are very near some shops so when "the" snow comes we wont get snowed in and stranded etc.dont have any issues with feeling safe, or gangs etc. im sure they are there but i dont go to that side of town, and everyone ive met here has been lovely.
ive discovered cinamon spread (OMG!)
our PR application is in progress so hopefully the medical requests will come soon and we can get those out of the way and should get our PR thru in jan. (its taking about 5 months for applicants on PNP at the moment in BC)
we love it here and im effectively rationing the gravy granules
will report back when "the" snow arrives ( apparently there is snow, and then "the" snow. when "the" snow gets here it stays 4 months and goes down to -30...brrr.) landlord left us a snowblower and a couple of shovels so we should be good to go when the chill decends.

Good luck. It's great that the children have settled so well

oh you have no idea! my dd was really worried about leaving her friends ( and the true test of them has been who has bothered to email her
) but she had friends here within 5 mins of arriving!
ds has been a bit more of a challenge with his needs etc but he is reasonably well liked and he tolerates the rest of his homeroom class lol. they both seem to be doing really well.
(and after the summer from hell its great just to be baby and me for the days in between drop off and pick up
) so no time for me to get homesick (although imsure that will come in the long winter ahead)
right now its all roses

Sounds like you are really settling. Winters are long if you don't get out and enjoy them. There are local used ski/skate and snowboard swaps in the autumn, look out for them and kit the kids out so they can get out and enjoy.
Trying to buy everything new all at once is verrrry expensive!

hi
We now been in Woodstock NB with my hubby on a TWP for 14 weeks now (him a bit longer he came in April) and i must say so far (touch wood) everything has gone smoothly. Arranged rental and utilities from UK, didn't have big deposits to pay, got my 8 year old in school no problem. Love the place nice and quiet, people friendly. I know here is not everyones choice to move to but its working for us. Could do with me working but that can't happen until we apply for PR,but we are so far managing on OH pay. Would be nice to meet a few more people so gonna volunteer in school etc. Got winter to come and Xmas away from the family, so i guess that will be the big tester, but hearing our daughter say she doesn't want to go back to UK and loves it here and her new friends is really encouraging so early in.
Will keep updating xx

My advice, be very busy xmas day... get together with friends, book a table at a restaurant, or have people over, xmas and new years eve were unbelievably hardest for me the first few years.

we already did our first xmas here ( in vancouver) this year. it was difficult because we lived in a hotel and our supposed freinds who had invied us over dropped us last minute ( literally half ten on xmas morning told us not to come they were sick, we never heard from them again
) so we had IHOP for xmas day, and made the best of it. it sucked. this year i have a great big family meal planned and if anyone can make it over from UK to join us that would be great but if not then there is skype ( make appointments for time slots or people get disgruntled
)
NYE is our anniversary of meeting so we always do that together at home quietly
havent had time to miss anyone really yet. im sure it will come. but we can deal with it.

I got mine from a walmart store and they didn't need anything from me apart from my banking info to pay the bill.
My OH got a PAYG from the 7 Eleven with credit that does not expire if it is not used.
This info may help.
Glad all is going great for you in BC

thanks MJ. we are here on TWP so they insist on a $200 deposit for koodo, i will be going with them if i can tho they do the best packages ( well actually wind are better but coverage up here is patchy and they dont work on the iphone, which is a deal breaker for me cos i love mine) just going to wait for the 5 to hit the shelves and ill pop along and get my new contract and shiny iBling
