A couple of early ones:
The worst might have been the day of arrival. The luggage was lost en route. We arrived at the hotel and set out to see Toronto, we walked down Yonge Street to the lake and back up to Bloor. Not seeing anything that looked like it might be "downtown" we went and asked at the front desk if we were in a suburb. The concierge said we were not.
In retrospect, the best might have been a few weeks later when I was fired for allegedly parking on the grass. I had not parked on the grass. The firing left me in a bit of a spot, being abroad with no money and all. It did however teach me all I'll ever need to know about employment practices in Canada. I've taken the lesson to heart.
