Re: You guys will love me for this!!
I am in Canada thanks to a head hunter who found me and brought me here, and liased with my employers lawyers to sort out the work permit.
He was not an immigration agent or specialist, didnt usually recruit from overseas, and only got paid the usual rate for filling the position, so for the cynics out there, this kind of thing does occasionally happen...

But to advertise to " Canadian and US professionals in IT, TELECOM, ENGINEERING and FINANCE who wish to relocate to anywhere in North America"?
And to advertise yourself as someone who "who will assist with clients looking for work and need work permits" And through LinkedIn?!!?
Forget not- alot of people thought Andrew Miller was legit didn't they?

I can understand the scepticism as there are a lot of sharks out there, but for the cynics out there, this kind of thing does occasionally happen in an innocent and above board way too...

Not denying it doesn't rarely happen Ian. To skilled professionals. And I am sure any recruitment professional worth their salt would help with the Visa process etc. even possibly helping facilitate.

And for a long time he was; There are many satisfied people here who were clients of AM, He was a member of CSIC in good standing for a good while. What happened recently with him I dont know, but its certainly regrettable.
Any recruitment agent needs to get a network of contacts...my agent got my name from another guy who wanted to come to canada, but worked in a different area, so it seems legitimate to cast a wide net to see what pearls you can drag in. I dont see anything too illegitimate about this. IT, TELECOM, ENGINEERING and FINANCE are all professions eligiable for various visas, so its certainly not out of the question. As I said, buyer beware applies, but branding others as idiots or gullable for checking this out is not necessary.

Am i right in thinking that a recruitment agent need never ask for any payment from job seeker? and application fee would be paid direct by to CIC by the applicant?

Yes, it always amazes me how some people jump in with both feet, assuming the worst without allowing a full explanation. There are some people that are here to give genuine help.

I completely agree Iain, my husband has been headhunted many times by recruitment agents in Canada. There are certainly plenty out there who are very reputable and will help people get over from the UK.

In my case all the application fees etc were paid by my employer, plus airfares and shipping allowance, but I imagine thats all negotiable, depending on how keen they are to hire you. In many cases it seems normal for the applicant to pay for the process, either directly or through a third party representative.

We went quite quickly from "You guys will love me for this" to "I wanted to check her out first to make sure that she was ok and not going to charge you guys. So go ahead but be careful cos I have'nt heard back from her yet"
I feel vindicated in my use of LOL's.
