Hello All,

I wanted to go to the Emigrate Show in October and realise that the one in York is probably closer to me. But the question was should I drive/bus/train it or would it just be as easy to get to the one in Surrey and drive/bus train it? What will be the most easiest/cost effective? I am a good driver BTW and don't mind driving to unknown places. My geography and knowledge of England is next to none, so all help would be appreciated.

You could fly to Gatwick and train/bus from there.£57.48 for flight with E*** J**.

York is definately closer than Surrey.

Driving to York will take at least 6 hours, to Surrey would take around 10 hours! I would train or fly it. Unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone flies from Edinburgh to Leeds (which is about 30-40mins from York). You could fly to Manchester cheaply which is about an hour and a half from York... Nightmare!

Maybe train is the answer?

If you're going to be living outside a city when you ultimately get to Canada I'd say start driving everywhere to get used to sitting in the car for hours. You'll probably end up covering huge distances by car in Canada. I laugh now when i think of the 'long' journey I had from home (East Lothian) to the Western general everyday for work. I now drive 2.5 hours each way to get to Walmart!!!

Drive to York - nice drive down the A68 to Darlington and then a quick hop down the A1. Make a weekend of it and stay in York.

Someone else posted a thread on here last week about the York show, in that they had a letter telling her the the Canadian briefings wouldn't be going ahead as the staff wouldn't be able to make it. Don't know if this is still the case as we checked the website and the briefing times are still there.

By the way, we are going to the one at Sandown, we live in Cornwall, so that's going to be about a 6 hour drive for us. We are going up on the Friday night and staying in a Travel Inn for two nights.

I would double check that the briefings are going ahead before you book.

It was me who said the CHC would not be there (still not) however there is a panel of experts doing a seminar, unlike Sandown where CHC will be doing the seminars on Fri & Sat but a panel of experts on the Sun. Info can be found at www.outboundpublishing.co.uk.

Sandown would have been our first choice despite the extra distance as we have been told there are more stands and more info to be gained however can't make the dates.

Hi been to both Sandown and York the cues are usually that long your lucky if you get to speak to anyone from CHC, but you do get to ask questions at the seminars. York is a lovely city lots of history and some great shops, we only live about 1 hr away. If it was me i'd find a Travel lodge and stay the wkend.

Is anyone going to the Sandown show on 7th October.

we could set up a BE identification code... rolled up newspaper/pink flower in lapel.etc. Discreet nod and then go back to chatting anonymously on line again.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I live in York and drove to Edinburgh this year, takes no more than 4 hours.
Or get train direct to York station and you can walk to the Knavesmire where show is if you wanted. Takes about 20-25 mins or get taxi for a fiver. Not sure about cost of train but would be a lot cheaper than flying!
