Yes I submitted the application to CIC in London in person. The lady at the counter said that it could take 3 to 4 weeks. My employer engaged a third party lawyer to do the WP application. They asked me for all the paperwork which they then reviewed and senty a pack to me to take to Canada House.
One thing I have to stress is that please ensure that you have all the paperwork (LMO, Work Permit application, Resume, A letter from your employer as to waht skills you will bring to Canada, photos in required format etc)
Hope this helps
Best regards

Myself and my family are seriously thinking of moving to Canada in the next 24 months, we,ve choosen a 24 month window because we just dont know how long the app process takes and what is instore for us during the app process, I,ve got a few Q,s that you could possibly help with.
Q:If i apply online for a job and get a job offer what happens next?
ie do i apply for a PV or just a temp one.
Q:if offered only a temp visa can my wife and kids come over with me or do they have to wait until a pv has been issued.
Q:what is the job market like around the calgary / red deer area, my trade is CNC Mashinist.
Q: starting funds, obviously i would bring funds with me but stated in the embassy web site in Germany it says that i dont need the intial starting funds if i,moffered a perm job.
just a more personal Q: man the UK must be really crap at the moment because there are just so many people leaving blighty , my mum still lives there (MILTON KEENS) i dont think i could force myself to go back there after living in germany for so long.
if things here hadn,t gotten so bad over here in the last 5 years what with massive unemployment, hourly rates at work not increasing but decreasing then i would of stayed here, but i want to be able to offer my kids something later on and the only option i see is to move on to another country and canada just looks to be the perfect option.
any valuble info would be much app. wayne 330

1. if you apply and get a job offer the potential employee must submit a LMO (labour market opinion) to HRSDC in the area you want to go to. the HRSDC must approve this if there is a skills shortage and that the company has advertised alot for the position you are trying to fill.
2. yes your wife can get an open spousal permit and you kids study permits but only if you have managed to get the LMO and work permit.
3. sorry, don't know about the job market in calgary.
4. yes you don't need funds to show if you have a perm job arranged - but i read somewhere recently a officer requested funds proof just in case.
hope this helps a little - good luck

applied SEPT 04
AOR OCT 04
states 18 month wait
had delays letter FEB 06 - says delays to DEC 06
then should be initial assessment (IA)
i would try to get a job - work permit etc. then apply for PR visa and be in Canada while to 3-4 years application is processed, otherwise 3-4-5 years too long to put life on hold, i've waited nearly 2 years and going crazy
