Okay, here's a hypothetical question for you. Is it possible to use some you know's SIN to work in Canada? If that person doesn't squeal on you to the authorities, is there anyway that they can find out? Assuming that you could get away without showing the card to your employer, would there be trouble? what about tax returns?
Obviously this is all hypothetical, and no-one would dream of doing anything so dastardly, least of all yours truly. But it's an nteresting theoretical debate, don't you think? Much obliged.

Hypothetically speaking, i suppose it would be about the same as using someone elses national insurance number. they might get away with it for a wee while, but it would soon turn in to one horrible mess. not to be recommended i'm sure.

You'd pretty much need the person who the SIN number belongs to's permission AND you'd have to tell your employer that your name was THAT person, AND have your paycheques made out to that person as well, have them cash the cheque, give you cash ...
...PLUS the SIN's owner would also be responsible for paying the income tax on the additional income.
Now, who would do THAT to a friend?
