I have been provisionally offered a driving job in saskatoon. I would like to know if my wife would be able to work aswell, she is a qualified Nursery Nurse with a NNEB diploma and at the present she works at a primary school. I have been told that if she comes over to canada with me she will have to wait 9months, while i am working on a visa before she can apply for a job herself is this correct or would she have to wait until i have residency?
Also is there jobs for Nursery Nurses working in schools in saskatoon?
We would also like any information on the best areas to look for rented accomadation and schools for my 9year old son who is a talented football player.
How long is the school working day and how many holidays do they get in canada?::lecture:

"Nursing" is a regulated occupation in Canada.

Here is something I found for Saskatoon soccer.
http://www.marketflex.com/chris16/2/...ccer-youth.php
School is from 9 am to 3.30 pm for 9 year olds. They usually get a couple of weeks holiday at Christmas, one week at Easter and the summer holidays are from June 28 to September 1. At least those are the dates in Regina in the Catholic system. The public (or non Catholic in Saskatchewan) would be about the same.
I am wondering if the term Nursery Nurse is something different here. Are you talking about a school nurse? Or perhaps someone that works in a daycare? Or are you referring to a Registered Nurse - someone who works in a hospital?
I would be glad to help you if you let me know exactly what she does. We are really short of registered nurses in Saskatchewan, but I am not sure what the story is about foreign qualifications but I could easily find out.

Thanks liz, for the info on football and schools.
With regards to my wife and her job the diploma she holds NNEB stands for Nursery Nursing Education Board. This does not mean that she is a nurse as such. She works with children of primary school age 4 to 10yrs. Her job is identical to a teacher except she receives less than half the wage. She works with small groups of children alongside the class teacher teaching them literacy & numeracy ect.
With her diploma she is also able to work in other areas of childrens development examples Nursery or Nanny.
She has work in a school environment for the past 8 years and likes this type of work best. We were led to believe that the NNEB diploma was a recognised qualification around the world, but maybe not?
Thanks colin

I think you must be talking about a Teacher's Aide. I know they have them but I have no idea what kind of qualifications they have to have.
Here you are! They must be called Teacher Associates. If you click on the name in the left hand column, it gives you the qualifications.

I have no idea what kind of money they might make.
So far as I am aware, you cannot get a job in the separate (Catholic) school system unless you are a Roman Catholic. However, I think you can work in the public system even if you are a Catholic, which doesn't seem fair to me, but still.

Thanks liz,
That information was a great help. My wife now knows what to look for but we will have to find out about the qualification difference. We have been told that she will be unable to work for 9months when we arrive in canada as it will be me who will be working on a work permit for a company called yanke in saskatoon.
Thanks colin

I've heard of Yanke. I think they are in Regina too aren't they?
So, do you have to wait for months while the Immigration people approve you or can you come here right away and start work?

I believe that the head office of yanke is in saskatoon, but that they have depots across canada. I have sent most of my details to the company and i am awaiting an interview here in England at the end of march, so i don't know how long it will take. We also have to find out about accomodation because we would rather live outside the city but close enough for work and school.
