I have applied for a truck driving job in Regina, Saskatchewan. Can anyone give me any information on living in this area, schools etc. When you rent a house what is extra i.e. water taxes etc. Does anyone know about truck driving jobs in Saskatchewan (demand for them and how well they live on their wages). I will be bringing my wife and two children (aged 6 & 4) with me so would be grateful for any help anyone can give.

Quite often when you rent a house you will get a fridge and a stove included. Sometimes you even get a washer and dryer but not always. You would also have to pay for gas and electricity, water, telephone, cable TV etc. etc. Gas and electricity vary obviously according to the size of the house, but the payments can be equalized so that you pay the same every month rather than less in the summer and huge payments in the winter. The water bill can be done the same way.

Your kids can go to either school. They can go to the Catholic school if you are not a catholic.
I believe they have to be 5 by November some time in order to go to kindergarten. Kindergarten is only half days in Saskatchewan. There are also French Immersion schools in both the public and catholic system.
I know nothing about truck driving jobs. Maybe someone else does.

To suss out job prospects for truck drivers I would suggest checking out http://www.labourmarketinformation.ca - go to employment prospects part, select area and then select NOC number 7411 for truck drivers - this will list which parts of Sask have good prospects etc. You can also check out wage rates etc. and get a list of hiring companies by looking around the menu.
Best of luck!

These all cover the Sask areas as well as others but Liz may also have some local pointers or online newspapers that you can check out.

You can try here.

These are homes for sale by owner. I have heard that its hard to get a mortgage if you have no credit record in Canada.

Hiya - somebody on this board has been accepted to Sask. PNP (can't remember who) but they may be able to give a guidline on how long it took to go through. Liz do you remember who it was? - they were planning to land this month if I remember.
I could do a search but I'm off to veg. in the bath instead!

Thank you crazydaisy. I found that thread. It's was very quick for the PNP to come through. If this job doesn't work out will try the PNP route. Hopefully this job will work out and can go on work visa first to see if we like it.
