Working in Ottawa without French ?
Fellows,
If you work in Ottawa or just have a relevant information about Ottawa. Please help.
I am interesting to clarify what is my chance to find work in IT in the Ottawa community without French language.
Of cource I will imedeatly start to learn it there, but for the start. If the Ottawa city has any division into English/French language sections ?
Thanks.

Ottawa is in Ontario and it is a mostly English speaking city. Even if you would
want to work in Quebec (the only exclusively French language Province) you will
have no problems without French language in most IT positions as long as your
English is good.

Re: Working in Ottawa without French ?
Generally, Ottawa for tech work is English. The two exceptions are in the public
service (where French is a requirement but nobody's quite sure why since when it
comes down the work is all done in English!) or in sales and marketing (and that's
mostly if you're trying to sell into Quebec).
Ottawa is predominantly anglophone. The west parts of the city into Nepean and Kanata
is virtually all anglophone, with lots of Brits here too! The near East part of the
city has a strong French area (called Vanier) and then as you go East, there is
certainly a higher proportion of francophones, except again for pockets of strong
anglophones, like Blackburn Hamlet and Bearbrook. Then as you leave Orleans to the
East, the villages become strongly francophone, unless you head south!
It's a curious mottling. Except for the civil service (public service) an "only
anglophone" will have little problems employmentwise or even living anywhere in
Eastern Ontario.

Andrew:
Thanks for quick response. My English is not good enough, since I've only read / write it and never spoke, BUT I have to improve it and I'll do.
Stuart:
Thank you for regions description.
I assume that I will look for the house for rent in the Kanata / Nepean.
Hope it will not be too expensive for 2bdr. appartment.

Here in Kanata a 2bdr apartment in our apartment block costs over $900 per month and
some are $1100. Andy. BTW - to answer your question about French speaking from
before, I work in IT with virtually no French language knowledge, as do most of my
colleagues.

Re: Working in Ottawa without French ?
Great!
But I still want to learn French - there are a lot of butifull songs in French.
As for apartments - If there are a low rise buildings in the Kanata. My wife is afraids of high rise structures
And a question to Handyman: Where do you work ?
If there are a big IT companies in the Kanata ?
