Question Work Permits - Concurrent processing with PNP

Hi there,
I know there's a few threads on this concurrent processing of a work permit but they seem to be if you're waiting for a LMO.
Has anyone done this whilst waiting for a PNP (to BC) application to be approved/agreed?
I've searched the CIC web pages but can't find any references to concurrent processing of work permits except in the LMO situation. Has anyone found something that I've missed?
What are your thoughts on trying this to speed things up?

Hi,

I'm not sure if fully understand your first question. But we have just been accepted by BC PNP. I was a bit worried about the small amount of time that we had between our current (BUNAC) visas expiring and getting new work permits for the interium period before our PR application is processed.

We had a letter from BC PNP saying that we can have work permits that you send off with your application (this is instead of a LMO from HRSDC). I was told that it's best to use a courier as your new work permits are valid from the day your application arrives, and hence we can track that date via courier, rather than waiting for the new work permits to arrive back.

Anyway, as I doubt this answers your question, then I would suggest phoning BC PNP. They are surprisingly friendly and helpful, and return calls within 24 hours if you leave a voicemail. I find phoning before 9am PST is the best time to get through.

It is possible to also email BC PNP but I've found that their emails are quite general, and can miss the point of your quesiton.

I only have first hand experience with NS PNP so you would need to check if the same applies to BC but...

Should be no problem. After you have got the nomination from the province you can put in an application for a work permit so you can start work sooner. If you already have nomination you don't need to get the LMO - the fact the province nominated you is evidence enough that the job couldn't be filled. So you could get a work permit in about a month.

This is quite a normal situation - even though PNP is much faster most employers still dont want to wait 6-8 months if they have an opening they need to fill - mine was very keen that I start on a work permit while I was witing for this. However I didn't want to do it until I knew I had got nominated (in other words the immigration process was sort of a "done deal") because I wasn't prepared to go to the cost etc of moving to Canada on a work permit to discover later on that I couldn't get permanent residency.

I'm taking the risk of going out on a work permit and then applying under PNP. I can't see what problems there would be if you did it the other way round. FWIW, I don't feel that it is taking too big a risk as I score quite highly on the points system. I also have a permanent job offer which must help.

If you want to get here quicker, once you have been accepted under the PNP. Instead of applying to London, apply at POE, take all the paperwork you would have submitted to London and they will give you your work permit there and then.
A friend of mine HAD submitted to London and when at POE they told him they could have done it there for him, but didn't want to step on London's toes so he had to wait for it to come normally, which in his case was around 6 weeks.

Although you are not encouraged to do so, but few other posters have and had no problems.

Thanks poll72000.
Did your friend go through the BC PNP too ?
The timescale for that process is quoted at 5 to 8 weeks; another 6 weeks for a work permit is a long time.
Which was his POE? Is it likely to be different at different POE's?

[QUOTE=live to ski;5280408]Hi,

We had a letter from BC PNP saying that we can have work permits that you send off with your application (this is instead of a LMO from HRSDC).
What I'm trying to find out is whether you can apply to CHC London for your work permit BEFORE you receive this letter from BC PNP so that your work permit is being processed at the same time. I know the work permit won't be issued until the provincial nomination has been approved.

I would suggest phoning BC PNP. They are surprisingly friendly and helpful, and return calls within 24 hours if you leave a voicemail. I find phoning before 9am PST is the best time to get through.

It's a great idea to phone but not so easy to get a return call when you're in the UK rather than Canada.
I agree with your email comment; the answer was too general and the point of the question was missed.
I have tried phoning London but only got to listen to recorded voices with no option to leave a message.
I'm still waiting for a response to my email to London (or even an acknowledgement from them).

Yes he went through BC PNP and arrived at Vancouver. Like i said they told him they could have done it there for him but seeing as he had already waited 4 weeks they didn't want to interfer with London as his process was nearly over.
His timeline to have the acceptance letter from BC PNP in his hand was around 5 weeks.
