Can anyone help me with the following:-
I am waiting to get confirmation from the HRSDC about a LMO for a Job Offer I have. I have been advised that once I receive this the quickest way to get a PR visa is to apply for a Work permit first. Then once I have a work permit apply for a PR Visa.
The problem I have is - We (OH and two kids) do not intend to move to Canada before we have PR visas so is it worth applying for the work permit or should I just go for the Skilled Worker Application with Arranged Employment Offer?
My worry is that they will ask for proof of funds (which I don't have until I sell my house) and that I will have to pay a study fee for the kids to start school although I have no intention of moving them out on a work permit.
Help!!

Would your future employer wait for your PR to come through?
If you go on a work permit your children will get study permits and so you will not usually pay for education.
My understanding is that the equity in your house counts as proof of funds (get valuation and mortgage statement).
You could apply for your PR whilst you are working out there on your WP and it should be fast tracked.
Why wait?

Yes, my Uncle is offering the job so he can wait till next year.
My OH has the chance of a job offer WHEN he becomes a PR - so we decided we would go through imigration with my offer of employment through my Uncle. We do not want to move out until summer next year, this will give us plenty of time to sell house etc. Therefore I do not see why I need to apply for a work permit if I have no intention of using it. Surley it would be better to just apply for PR with my Arranged Employment Offer?

What are the approx timelines for this route? Is is realistic and likely to slot into place for about one year? Sounds ideal if you can make it. Otherwise, don't under-estimate the time it may take to sell your house, and finalise things (see numerous tales of woe on this site!).
As destination said - the proof of funds is easy to prove with a letter of valuation on your home, and then a mortgage statement showing the difference. Most of us have done this. Kids education likewise can be sorted out with the work permit route. Do you even need to show proof of funds with a Work Permit?
Depends on how keen you are to go I guess - as long as what you are proposing doesn't slide into the "2-3 years" bureaucracy of CHC .

Not sure that I am explaining things properly - only given half the story.
Basically my OH is having interviews in November for a job, they will only offer him the job if he has Permanent Residency status. So we need to apply as Skilled Workers, I had read on numerous occasions how long this takes without a job offer. My Uncle who lives in Ottawa has been able to offer me a full time job, for which we are waiting HRSDC LMO approval. Once we have this we are going to to apply for our PR Visas - I had been told though that it would be quicker to apply for a work permit first and then a PR Visa but am I not just delaying the PR Visa by doing this, we would not be able to go out there and only myself work as we would not be able to afford it. Also I though if you have a job offer that the application for PR is speeded up considerably, my husbands prospective employer has said that if he passes the interviews etc that they will be able to write to immigration and tell them that if he is made a PR then will offer him a job.
I think I am rambling a bit now - any ideas anyone?

I don't think that it makes any difference to the timescale whether you apply via SW with guaranteed employment, or whether you apply for SW and go on WP whilst you are waiting. either way it is faster than just sitting waiting with no job.

We can't afford to go out on a work permit as my husband will not get a job till he is a PR, he is applying to the Police and they can only employ him if he is a PR - so we stuck here until our visa comes through. I think I will apply for a work permit anyway, and then send the work permit and my job offer in with my SW application. Maybe a letter from the Police could speed things up for us? who knows.
Thanks for the advice, I will let you know how things go.

So if your hubby is applying for the Police - why can't you go through PNP scheme as I know that Edmonton and Calgary both recruit this way. Usually get a PR through PNP within a year.
Depending on the classification of your own LMO job he could be able to apply for a SOWP (try a quick search for this in the immigration forum) and therefore he would be able to work anywhere.
People who have come here on WP and then applied for PR are getting MEd requests really quickly now.
The Poster who applied '05 :
Did you actually send payslips and a letter from employer saying how they want to make the position permanent as soon as PR is received ? Only ask as this is how a lot of people are approaching this scenario at the mo.

He is looking to join Ottawa Police and they don't do the PNP. They also won't allow to work in Canada on a work permit he has to be a PR. Guess I had better hurry up and get my PR application in - i was under the impression that if you had an AEO with your application then it only takes 6 to 8 months?
Please don't tell me I am wrong!!!

Hi Marmite8,
just thought i would let you know what is happening with our PR application. We got an AEO and our paperwork went in at the end of January, we had a request for further information in April, then another one in September. Other than that we are still waiting. I have an agent dealing with ours and they say that due to the volume of applications this year, we may not get medical requests for another month. Having called all the authorized medical practitioners, the waiting lists can be quite long too. Again once they are done it takes up to three months to get passport requests.
My advice would be to get the application in as soon as possible and prepare for a long wait.
Hope this helps a little.
