Thank you for your honest opinion. It's always good to hear from people in a similar situation and how the move went for them.

Thanks very much for your reply. That is also something we're considering - trying to find a nice small state school for him where class sizes will be smaller! I have spoken to a few people who have managed to find really lovely state schools with small class sizes for their children. I work in private education in England and love the school, but even with discounts could not afford the fees! We would love to move though and try and live abroad for a few years and see how we get on, but it seems as though it would be very difficult, so a move within Europe or just within England maybe something we will do instead. Thanks again

Have a look at the TES International jobs section, that is how I moved to Hong Kong 30 odd years ago (it was there or Colombia, lol). Whilst you may be able to get a teaching contract relatively easily (provided you have the qualifications and experience they are looking for) your partner may find it more difficult to gain employment in 'foreign lands'. Worth a look though!

Your OH will have to challenge the Red Seal Inter-Provincial exam if he wants to be a licensed plumber in Canada. He will have to prove 9600 hours of working in the trade if you choose BC. Total amount of hours differ in other provinces. Once that's approved by ITA BC you sit a 4hr exam with 125 questions. 70% to pass. The plumbing exam has a really high fail rate. It's dam hard.
I would recommend taking a lower rate of pay and getting an understanding of Canadian plumbing and the codes here if you did decide to come over. Lots of construction going on in vancouver. He would get between $22 - $27 hr. Once he has his license (journeymens ticket) would get $30 - $35 hr.
If he wants to do gas here also, he will have to do a gas course and sit a gas exam.
