[QUOTE=Former Lancastrian;11579230]I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.
The bit in bold sounds perfect, rest of it is unnessecary and pointless really

This thread has been very enlightening.
Wearing no clothes didn't make much sense to me.
Especially in the winters.

I can imagine you blindly leading the life of the penguin, as you blindly fall off the cliff following others without question...I guess history doesn't mean much to some people. You make a great case for why the pledging of an oath to a Queen should be abolished, since it clearly only exists as a bureaucratic hurdle for you.

Thats EXACTLY why new Canadians are asked to swear allegiance to the Queen as she and her ancestors ARE the history of Canada. I dont see what the big fuss is about, if these people dony want to take the oath, and acknowledge the history of Canada, then dont become a citizen. Simple.

Yep, exactly what I posted a few pages back. Canada does not require anyone to become a citizen - they can stay a PR, renew that, and continue to live and work in Canada. Being a citizen of Canada means taking that oath, so if you don't want to take it, then fine, don't become a citizen, no one is forcing you.

It's like being required to stand on one leg singing my old man's a dustman in order to buy apples. If you don't want to make a fool a fool of yourself don't buy apples doesn't really work.
What happens with people holding American citizenship who are eligible to vote in the USA or citizens of any Republic? Isn't there a conflict in pledging allegiance to a Queen?

They still haven't explained to me exactly what this "history" is that they speak of.
One can only assume it is some evil nasty English people vs, pure as the driven snow Scottish people, sort of thing.

Or like being asked by a government bureaucrat to fill out a number of forms before receiving benefits. Not wanting to do so, likely, doesn't work there either. Their game; their rules
