There used to be a great chippie there, plus the A&P had lots of English goodies at reasonable prices. On the downside, the roads can be a nightmare courtesy of the trucks using the Ambassador Bridge.

I only have limited experience with Windsor, as ive only been a few times but thats a start. There is one member who is an ex pat and lived in Windsor I think now and absolutely loves it.
Anyhow first of all do you currently live in Ontario at the moment?
I liked Windsor from a visiting point of view, they have a large University there which can make it an interesting city for nightlife. There is a big casino in the heart of the city too which can be fun.
Windsor is right accross the boarder from Detroit and im not sure if you know much about Detroit but that city has a lot of problems. I think some of them partially transfer over to Windsor and If im not mistaken a lot of people work in the car industry and with the current economic downtown that region has been harder hit than other areas.
There were reports of homes being sold in Windsor for dirt cheap a few months ago, but im not sure whats its like currently.
For me i found it to be a pretty fun, vibrant city with good access to the United States, a nice size population with a working class vibe.
Hopefully people who are much more familiar with the city will post here soon.
Cheers

Yes the above quote is pretty much right and he/she seems to have made a very good observation IMHO. Detroit is really good for shopping and we find it really cheap over there with no real problems to date. Housing in Windsor still very cheap and loads to choose from, many with swimming pools if thats what you want. Some houses are still well under $100,000and some of those are very close to down town Windsor and not bad at all. There is loads of water here, two huge lakes and a river and boats can be had very cheaply. Work may or may not be a problem depending on what you do but the many bars still seem to get full and there are some very large houses here.
The nightlife here is very good and reasonably cheap as is eating out and going to the movies ($4 on Tuesdays). Our teenage son is at Windsor uni, he loves the uni and his constantly hectic social life. We have lived a few places over the years including BC and Australia so he now knows the difference between good and boring and he seems to think that for now, this place has got everything he needs. We get itchy feet every few years and may move on in time but I can say with certainty that there are far worse places out there than Windsor. If you can land a decent job I think you will be very happy here and probably get a lot more over here for much less than you would in BC. This once again is IMHO so people, please be gentle with me.
Good luck and hope this helps
J

jjanj it was one of your other posts that made me look at windsor.
It sounds a good place.
My wife is a nurse and I am a truck driver.
We live in scotland but are wanting to get out, I've had itchy feet for a while now, and looked at Oz but it didn't happen.
Might pop over next year for a look, first and the wife will have to look at the exam she needs for nursing in canada.
