Hi
Met them at Emigrate fair here in the UK last month, wanted £29.95 just to assess our chances! Speak well enough though & do seem very well versed on "technicalities" of Canadian Immigration Law.

If you must use a consultant (and you probably dont need to), at least avoid the ones who charge you for stuff you know you can get for free elsewhere. If the CIC site is too complicated, Andrew Miller is just one of many reputable consultants who offer free evaluations.

This particular company were recommended by a company our friends got out to Australia with, they have links with trucking companies apparently, and having only the option of the WP route, as my husband as HGV driver and not on the skilled wanted list, we were considering using them. No money has passed hands as yet, we are just testing the waters.

If your husband is an HGV driver, you may be able to get out to Saskatchewan or Alberta or some such via a provincial nominee program (PNP). There are other members of this forum who have done it. I suggest you do relevant word searches on this forum and on Google.

Any immigration company offering to arrange employment is also a little dodgy...things dont work like that. There is enough demand for truckers out West that you shouldnt need a consultant...several folks here are truck drivers and can point you in the right direction. Only the employer can initiate a work permit or provincial nomination anyway, although a lawyer can help smooth its progress, but really as the potential employee your involvment in that process should be pretty minimal for a WP.
Id be really carefull about handing over a lot of cash before I explored what you really get for your money. In general even for PR a lot of the donkey work cant be avoided by paying a lawyer anyway....they will check the forms, but you still have to do the tedious part of gathering all the info. There are probably better things to spend a few grand on unless you have a "complicated" background.

If they are dealing with Canada too, theres a chance they are subcontracting the work to a canadian consultant, then charging you that fee plus a mark up for their "input".

There's nothing complicated that should be of any problem, so we will try and go it alone for the time being.
We've read some good reports about a particular trucking company that recruits UK drivers for Alberta/Saskatchewan, we'll give them a try.
