Almost certainly will be just fine. Most laptop power feeds are dual voltage. You just need a new plug, or an adapter.

You will only need an adapter for the plug, nothing else.
Your power transformer will automatically adapt to 110 - 240 no problem.
As will your wireless card, you will find that there is a lot of free WiFi in Canada compared to the UK. Here in Winnipeg all the Libraries, Starbucks in Safeways, etc offer free wifi.

Not saying you should do it but DH just changed our 2 laptop plugs from 3 to 2 and it worked fine

look on the laptop charger. If it says in the small print 'input 110-240 V AC, 50-60 Hz', you'll be fine. Pull out the UK extension lead from the charger. You should be left with a little figure-8 socket thing. Then, head down the hardware store and buy a '2-prong power cord' and plug that in, in place of the UK connector. Voila, power supply to cope with funny Canadian monopoly power.
Now connect the whole lot up to the wall, preferably in someone else's apartment ('cos finding fuses out here is a real mission) and off you go.
Of course, if it starts smoking, I never said anything.
