All conversations tend to wander off topic whether they be here, at the pub or anywhere else. That's a fact of life. |
Re: Will Canadian TVs work in UK?
Sure your tv will work ,but as I say check the voltage on the back of your tv because a lot of them are 110-240v if not a stepdown will be ok we use them all day on the building site because 110v only is acceptable.Insurance wise I don,t know but I can,t see it being a problem.Hope this helps.( are we friends now)

Re: Will Canadian TVs work in UK?
Its only the built in TV tuner that wont work, if you check at lot of TV`s these days actually support both 110 and 240 volts so even power may not be a problem

Re: Will Canadian TVs work in UK?
I think you may be able to tune it in manually but not sure

Re: Will Canadian TVs work in UK?
You'll need to check what you intend to use as an input device
although technically your TV will "work" will the device you intend to use, feed it a signal it will understand ? Google DVB, ATSC This is a expatriates site, not a hotbed of technical intelligence, certainly most electrical advice on here is one step away from useless or worse. I'd suggest posting on an audio or video site if you want an answer thats worth anything on this topic, I'd suggest the AVS forum |

To OP
Have a read of the wiki, i have added lots to it lately to explain the UK TV question, it should answer the same the other way i.e. power, connectivity and TV reception. With regards to comformance check if it has a symbol with "UL" with "EU" underneath. Also look for "C E". Those are the sort of conformance stickers you will see for European. The "c UL a" sticker/symbol or combination of that is for North American conformance. If devices are made in the far east then normally they have all three. Cheers JB |

so as I see it, I can use the TV in the UK as long as I get a power convertor and use cable tv using a hdmi lead into the tv. Sounds like a pain but it will save me from having to buy a new one when we first move back!!!! Think I might take the dvd players too as they are region free. |

Actually, that'll not be much different than we do here in Portugal anyway, except we have a UK Freesat box plugged in via a SCART lead, but from what I gather your North American TV is unlikely to have SCART options. |
