I answered this question so many times that I eventually wrote a Wiki article called Canada versus Australia. A couple of people from the Oz forum added a few points to round it out.

To be honest, I prefer New Zealand, but I just wanted to know if there were any reasons good enough to get me to change my mind!! Basically I needed confirmation that I had made the right decision in rejecting both Canada & Oz!
I think I have!
Thanks everyone xx

lost count of how many times this has been asked. if we have to point it out, meaning do a search, then perhaps its not for you anyway.

I do find it strange that people ask these questions.
To me Canada, Australia and New Zealand are all VERY different countries. The only similarities is they speak English and have a connection with the UK. Come on they don't even share the same friggin seasons! lol
But I wouldn't think... gees should I move to Canada, Australia or NZ. Sounds like some people move for the sake of it... without any real reason other than 'I'm fed up living in the UK'... Addressing the issues they face in the UK may be better then moving - as they may experience the same issues abroad which is a factor in why so many Expats who move come back to the UK.
I am moving to Canada not because I'm sick of the UK or want a better life but because my OH wants to return home and I happen to like the lifestyle there. I am moving from London to Toronto and know the issues I face in London will be the same in Toronto.
Out of curiosity I wonder what the Ratio is for Expats moving back to the homeland from Canada and Australia/New Zealand - my guess is more folks move back from Oz then Canada - anyone have any stats?
Ian :-)

Some people do start from the "I just want to leave the UK" point. If I am honest, that's where we were about 4 years ago. We looked at all the options. We looked at language, climate, geography, government, lifestyle, opportunities and countless other factors. When we had looked at all of those things we matched them to our list of priorities and preferences and Canada seemed the closest match.
From that point we have visited Canada a few times and toured about a bit and we have now moved on from the "just need to get out of here" stage to the "We really, really want to live in Canada because we love it" point.
Hopefully, having got to that stage before we move will give us a better chance of settling there forever. I would feel alot less confident about my future in Canada if I were still thinking of other countries as options, but I suppose if you can't do the recces everywhere, you just have to consider it an adventure and go for it.
Good luck.

I moved to Canada for no other reason than i met a Canadian lady who could not leave her children. It was either I moved to be with her, or we didn't stay together.
I fell in love with Canada from the first day i visited before the final move, after coming here 3 times in 1 year i knew the final move would be my last. , Can't say why.....Just did. Consider Canada MY HOME, MY COUNTRY. When i go back to the UK i see why maybe i wasn't so sad to leave it behind.
I can see where people have problems settling into a new country where as one poster said they "just want to leave the UK, and that will fix everything".
People have to understand that moving to a new country will not fix most things.....in fact it usually causes you to realize that maybe it's not the country that' the problem but the person your share the country with.
I spent some time in Australia, and loved the place, and could see the attraction of moving there......but that was before Canada.....you would need an act of war to get me to leave here now :-)
