Its quite expensive but trendy. A bit too far from Vancouver if you were going to work there (commuting with mad drivers who tailgate all the way it seems).

expensive
touristy down on the shoreline
parking problems in summer and expensive to park in public

Cutsie seaside town, long way from Burnaby, have to go through a tunnel or over a bridge to get into town. Easy drive out to the valley.
Some really nice properties in the area, its growing fast. We lived along Crescent Road for a while.

as nz currency became worth 25% less one night as i slept am having to rethink most things...
am pleased by energy surrounding my post!
i love van island but am thinking the trek might get to me if end up doing it once weekly. am thinking 1x weekly off peak into town from wr might be pleasant by comparison? good high speed internet provision - its not that rural? wr also puts me closer to lovely washington state and gulf islands? seems less expensive than the island? poss to design /build own house or is planning a battle? good area for active kids, partic those of climbing/ swimming ilk? good programs for kids / good schools? did a cbc search on w-r and it came up with teens pushing a senior cit into traffic - charming - and high migrant area lol

Not as close to the US but great for the gulf islands, about the same in terms of access to downtown Van, beautiful little town, good schools, great community feel - have you considered Tswawssen as well? Great beaches there too and while not cheap, it's not trendily expensive like WR. Gets lots of sun like WR too. There's also Ladner which imo is a great town. They're both part of Delta, which is next to Surrey. Not that WR is part of Surrey....
ahem.

this is all excellent. the only problem is i am now losing interest in all the **** i have to do to get over. it was so much easier when you had to send away for brochures and there werent lovely photographs all over the web for one to peruse.
guess i have some homework to do. this is the most excitement i've had in 3.5 years - well, the kind that comes with normal cortisol levels.

hey guys - your money is worth less too!!! when in canada 6 months ago the loonie was worth more than usd thus far loonier than usual. assumed you were still in the region but devil clearly in the detail. now its all heaps better!!! woohoo
crescent beach looks like a canadian venice beach - minus sports (thats the canadian part lol)???
am going to do some research on locations but as property sites too convoluted property issue unlikely to go anywhere before arrival. am pushing for 3-4 months to departure (needed project to soak up the cortisol).
crazy 70's houses are my thing. gardening isnt. if anyone knows someone needing to offload a mad untamed 60's/ 70's piece in near future... i'd rent to own if necessary.
kiwilass, life is a bit like a dubya speach - unpredictable!

Some v.cool houses that you might like in Crescent beach. I've only done the tourist things in White Rock so can't comment too much on the housing. The stuff near the bars etc looks like apts or houses with little gardens.
Crescent Beach is classed as Surrey, so don't judge the whole city on Whalley!
Some friends rent a Crescent Beach basement suite (sea view, floor to celling windows, 2 bedrooms -FAB) for £1200 inc utl's. found it through ad in local paper about 12 mnths again.
